CANADIAN INTERNET PROTOCOL NETWORK NUMBER APPLICATION for CLASS C NETWORK NUMBER(S) Template [8/23/93/hck] This template is to be used to obtain a TCP-IP number from CA*net. It obsoletes Form [1/3/tjm] which should no longer be used. This template is in two parts. The first part is a sample template and the second part is the template itself which should be filled out carefully, using the guidelines in the sample template, and returned as indicated below. Please fill in the template in EXACTLY the same format as shown in the sample. This information is scanned by software and any errors WILL result in delays in the issuance of the number(s) to you. In this situation, EXACTLY means EXACTLY as shown, line by line, item by item, field by field. The NIC software designed to parse the application can accept no other format. Please do not change this format in any way. Do not combine fields that are on different lines and separate them with a semi-colon; the NIC software will not handle this. Please, in this case, EXACTLY really does mean EXACTLY. Please note that the network name is not the domain name of the network. The network name may contain dashes but no other special characters and must be less then or equal to twelve characters. This name is used as an identifier for the network in the Network Information Center (NIC) 'WHOIS' database and will be changed by the Network Registrar if the name is already in use. Applications may be sent by email or by fax to: CA*Net IP Registry Email: ipregist@canet.ca Fax: (416) 978 6620 If possible, send your request by e.mail. E.mail submissions allow us to automatically process the application and will therefore result in the request being processed in a shorter time than if the request is submitted by fax. Please do not send requests to the NIC in the USA. They will be forwarded by the NIC to the Canadian IP Registry office who will then process the number. You will lose a considerable amount of time if you send your request to the NIC. Replies will be via e.mail if the request was received through e.mail and via telephone if the request was received by fax. In the following, the 'Type of Organization' should be either 'government,' 'educational,' or 'commercial' while the fifth item deals with the actual number of networks being requested. In the case of Class C addresses, IP numbers are assigned in blocks to CA*net and then reassigned to specific organizations through this template. Enter the number of Class C addresses you desire here. If you wish a class B address, contact the IP registrar BEFORE submitting this form. Item 6 is required for installations who are currently connected to or planning to be connected to one of the provincial networks such as MBnet, ARCnet, etc. It is used strictly to gather statistical information for CA*net and is not used for routing or any other technical purpose whatsoever. As this form is to be used by any organization in Canada to obtain an IP number or numbers, it should be left blank by those organizations not planning to join a regional network. Thus, in the following example, the Pooh Software Company is requesting two Class C networks and planning to connect to ONet. -------------------Sample Template----------------------------- 1a.
